Rape charges against Sandeep Lamichhane overturned in his favor

Sandeep Lamichhane has been given a clean slate by the Patan High Court after the Nepalese were charged with a rape case which sentenced the 23-year-old to eight years in prison.

The Patan court said that there is a lack of evidence in the case after Sandeep Lamichhane challenged the Kathmandu District Court’s decision of an eight-year sentence citing himself as innocent.

In September 2023, the then-captain of the Nepal Cricket Team, Lamichhane faced suspension from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) after an arrest warrant was issued in Kathmandu after a complaint had been made against the former skipper.

The player also had to leave immediately while playing in the Caribbean Premiere League (CPL) for the Jamaica Tallawahs when his suspension by the CAN was announced.

And as soon as he was in Kathmandu, the player was taken into police custody.

The player was in high demand in leagues around the world including the Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), and CPL.

He is also the world’s second-fastest bowler to 50 ODI wickets and the third-fastest in T20I to 50 wickets.

He made history by becoming the first Nepalese player to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when he became a part of Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2018.

The 23-year-old Nepalese is now available to play in the T20 World Cup starting from June 1st. His latest international appearance was in August 2023 against Kenya in a T20I match.
