Pat Cummins to play for San Francisco Unicorns in MLC2024

The pacer is Australia’s Test and ODI captain

Pat Cummins, captain of Australia’s Test and ODI team has joined Major League Cricket (MLC) franchise San Francisco Unicorns in the 2024 season.

The franchise confirmed his joining and the star will play alongside the pace battery of the team which consists of Pakistan’s Haris Rauf and New Zealand’s Matt Henry.

The MLC is set to start on July 5 2024 just a week after the T20 World Cup concludes in the USA and West Indies. Cummins will also join the team five days after the World Cup ends.

Cummins has expressed excitement over his inclusion in the MLC and the Unicorns franchise in a press release saying, “I’m very excited to join the Unicorns ahead of the 2024 season,” said Cummins. “MLC is developing rapidly, and the US market potential is huge for cricket.”

Recently though, Cummins has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and led the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the tournament’s final.

Cummins also led and won the 2023 World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup, showing his leadership skills evidently.

However, other Australian names that will join the MLC are Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Spencer Johnson, Steve Smith, and Jake Fraser-McGurk.

Smith will also commentate in the T20 World Cup 2024 whereas Fraser-McGurk impressed everyone with his stellar performance in the IPL.

The MLC will begin on June 5 and will end on July 28 with Texas and North Carolina to host the league.

The first match will be between the defending champions MI New York and runners-up of the last and the only edition of the league, Seattle Orcas at Church Street Park, North Carolina.

The Unicorns will begin their MLC journey in a match against LA Knight Riders (LAKR) on July 7.
