Shaheen Shah Afridi to participate in the Global Canada T20 League

The bowler recently played in The Hundred league

Shaheen Shah Afridi recently withdrew his participation in The Hundred’s 2024 edition and according to some reports, the Pakistani sensation is now in talks with Global Canada T20 League.

Shaheen’s withdrawal was due to a desire to spend time with family and loved ones and the Canadian league is shorter than The Hundred and makes a perfect chance for Shaheen to continue his cricket and spend some time with family.

Moreover, the two leagues are scheduled for around the same window and a clash is apparent making it impossible for Afridi to play in both.

Also, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) provides one player with two NOCs in a year to play in leagues.

This means that a player can not play more than two leagues. If Afridi is to play in the Canadian league then he will not have any NOCs left as he’s locked with Desert Vipers in UAE’s ILT20.

Afridi played for Welsh Fire in The Hundred’s last edition and took the team’s six wickets in six innings. He was also retained for this season but chose to withdraw as confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

In a press release, Afridi also confirmed his departure by saying, “I’m sad to miss out on playing for Welsh Fire this year, I enjoyed the Hundred a lot last season, and I was excited about being back in Cardiff. I wish Mike [Hussey, Welsh Fire’s coach] and the team the best of luck for 2024.”

However, the management has not confirmed the Global Canada T20 League’s schedule but an expected window of July 25 to August 11 is most probable. Nor have they confirmed Afridi’s inclusion in the league.

As for Afridi, he is currently in the USA for the T20 World Cup 2024 with the Pakistani cricket team. They will play their first match against the USA on June 6, then a game against India on June 9, and matches against Ireland and Canada.
