T20 World Cup 2024 co-hosts West Indies announce their squad for the event
West Indies has announced a 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 that is to start in June and the West Indies and the USA are to co-host the event.
Rovman Powell will lead the former T20 World Cup champions in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
The co-hosts have recently lost a T20i series under the captaincy of Powell against Australia, captained by Mitchell Marsh by 2-1.
The series ended on February 13th and the West Indians only won the last T20i.
Shamar Joseph who impressed everyone with his debut performance against Australia has also been included in the squad.
Director of West Indies Cricket Desmond Haynes spoke about the selection process and finalization. He said that they had a very long discussion about the batting
lineup and he stated very clearly that their focus is on the roles the players play.
He advocated and applauded Shamar Jones saying that the capabilities of someone like him can’t be questioned, they saw him in Australia and his amazing performance ticked all of the boxes for the selection committee.
Other notable additions in the squad include Shimron Hetmyer who has returned to the squad after missing the T20i series against Australia. He has been in exceptional form in the Indian Premier League representing Rajasthan Royals, he has scored 83 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 184.44 while playing at the end of the batting lineup.

Squad: Rovman Powell (c), Alzarri Joseph, Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Akeal Hossain, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd
West Indies are in group C, with Afghanistan, New Zealand, Papa New Guinea, and Uganda.
The ICC expects all of the participants to submit and reveal their squads by 25th May and no changes can be made after the date without ICC’s approval.
The T20 World Cup 2024 is set to begin on June 1st with the first match between the co-hosts USA and first-time qualifier Canada.
