From Karachi Kings official Twitter channel, it was shared that Steven Kirby joined the Karachi team as their bowling coach.

On 11 February 2024, it was announced that English right-arm fast bowler Steven Kirby joined the Karachi Kings as their head bowling coach. He will be the new bowling coach for Karachi in PSL 9. In PSL season 8 Dougie Brown was the head coach of the team. Bowlers like Muhammad Amir, Aamer Yamin, and Andrew Tye played season 8 under the coaching of Dougie brown, but this year’s circumstances are different as the team players were replaced or changes or traded so according to the new team bowlers that are added in the team’s squad that will be coached by Steven Kirby are Anwar Ali, Hassan Ali, Arafat Minhas and more.

Steve Kirby, born on October 4, 1977, is an English retired first-class cricketer who turned into a cricket coach in more recent years. Kirby had a notable career playing for Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, and Somerset, before retiring from playing in 2014. However, in 2020, he made a return to Somerset, this time as their bowling coach, further contributing to the sport he loves.

Following two years of earning invaluable business expertise at the executive search agency Michael Page International, Kirby joined the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at Lord’s in April 2016 as Head Coach. He conveyed his pleasure in a news release, stating, “I am incredibly thrilled to be taking on such a prestigious role.” Kirby, who joined the MCC in 2010, took over from Mark Alleyne, who served in that capacity for seven years. But Kirby left MCC on October 26, 2018, to become the new assistant and bowling coach at Derbyshire. Kirby then left Derbyshire to rejoin Somerset as their bowling coach on December 18, 2020. And now in 2024, he joined Karachi Kings as their bowling coach.

Due to his aggressive nature, Kirby has a reputation for getting into fights with opposition batters and occasionally even umpires. He’s become renowned as one of the greatest, if not the most mysterious. “sledgers” in the game. He famously got the wicket of Mike Atherton twice in the latter’s last County Championship match. Kirby allegedly said, “I’ve seen better players in my fridge.” Kirby stressed, though, that what he meant was, “I’ve seen better batters in my fish and chip shop.”

“Sledging” in cricket refers to the practice of verbally taunting or provoking opponents on the field with the aim of unsettling or distracting them.

Karachi Kings will play their first match with Multan Sultans on 18 February in Multan. And in that match what changes have been made by Steven Kirby for the team’s bowler and what will change compared to the bowling performance in the last season?
