BBL 2024: Seccombe and McKay hired as high performance managers of two BBL teams

Wade Seccombe and Clint McKay have been hired as high-performance managers at BBL’s Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars respectively.

Seccombe was let go by Brisbane Heat after he led the team into the finals last season. But he lost his job as Heat’s and Queensland’s coach after a poor performance of the men’s Sheffield Shield team.

Seccombe will move from Brisbane to Melbourne to take up the role with the Melbourne Renegades at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, McKay was the bowling coach of Melbourne Stars. He has also stepped in as Australia’s cricket team in the past two years when Daniel Vettori had to be rested or was promoted as a stand-in head coach for the national team.

The two appointments will bring greater alignment between the two BBL clubs and Victoria’s high-performance program that Graham Manou runs.

Graham Manou, who runs Victoria’s high-performance program says it is very pleasing to have two people and cricketers of Clint and Wade’s caliber joining the high-performance program and working closely with two Big Bash franchises.

Manou added that the two managers will play a vital role in scouring talent for T20 cricket and skills and the two will also play an active role in the already existing development programs of Victoria Cricket. However, their main emphasis will be on the T20 cricket department of the program.

The Renegades are without a head coach and Seccombe’s first job will be to help appoint a new head coach for the Renegades.

Former Australian players Shane Watson and Cameron White have been in the news and are being linked to the role. There have been no formal announcements by the Melbourne Renegades of either coach’s appointment as head coach.
