Rajon Rondo Unveils Powerful Tensions with Rick Carlisle During Dallas Stint
In an interview, Rajon Rondo came out to discuss the heated time he spent in Dallas Maverick, where he shared a conflict of interest with the former head coach Rick Carlisle. Rondo has had stints with several organizations within the NBA and was traded mid-season from the Celtics to the Dallas Mavericks in the 2014-2015 season.
Rajon Rondo was traded to the Mavericks and he played for 46 games for the Team but he was eventually involved in conflict with Carlisle. During the FanDuel TV’s Run it Back show, Rondo briefly described how he tried to change his ways after getting into conflict with Carlisle and also how he tried to figure out where on the floor Nowitzki preferred to take the ball. However, this approach meant that a significant clash was recorded.
“One particular game, Rirk had a couple of buckets on one side of the floor, so I tried to flip the play to the other side. That’s when Rick was like, ‘What the f— are you doing?’ He starts stomping and s— like that on the floor. As a man, it’s like, you disrespectful man, I’m a champion,” Rondo said, highlighting the disrespect he felt from Carlisle’s outburst.
Perception of Quitting
Rajon Rondo also addressed the widespread belief that he quit the Mavericks. He recalled a phone call with Carlisle and former general manager Donnie Nelson, which led to his abrupt departure from the team.
“They’re like, [Rick Carlisle] doesn’t want to coach you anymore, so we’re going to say your back is hurting and you’re done playing,” Rondo explained. “That’s why when I go back to Dallas, every time I get booed like it’s if I quit on the organization… I’ve never quit on anything in life.”

Rajon Rondo’s Performance and Legacy
While playing for the Mavericks, Rajon Rondo averaged 9.3 points, 6.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 43% from the field. Although he made significant contributions, his time in Dallas is often remembered more for the conflict with Carlisle than his performance on the court.
Rajon Rondo who is an NBA champion with the Boston Celtics despaired Carlisle’s decision to discourage him like a raw recruit and give little or no recognition to his status or achievements learned in the Lakers or Celtics basketball. This treatment led to a sad development that the Mavericks had to instantly break away from him as it impacted his tenancy with them.
