Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 is about to start on February 17, 2024, at the headquarters of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) located in Lahore.

The upcoming 2024 Pakistan Super League, referred to as HBL PSL 9 for sponsorship motives, is the ninth installment of the Pakistan Super League. It consists of six teams competing with each other. This event is scheduled in 4 cities in Pakistan starting on 17 February and ending on 18 March 2024.

Former Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Mr. Zaka Ashraf, expressed his excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to announce that the HBL Pakistan Super League’s ninth edition is set to kick off on February 17, we will have the best of T20 cricket in four cities across Pakistan. The decision to host these events across these cities is our commitment to bring top-notch cricket to fans across the country. We believe that hosting matches in these venues not only adds to the excitement for fans but also promotes cricket at the grassroots level.”
PSL 9 Tickets Schedule:
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Sunday that tickets for the PSL 9 will be put on sale from Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Beginning at PKR 1700, fans may get their tickets online in advance at pcb.tcs.com.pk.
The ninth season of HBL PSL is planned to begin on February 17 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore with the opening ceremony and to begin with coordination. Ticket costs are PKR 6000 (VIP), PKR 3000 (Premium), PKR 2000 (First class), and PKR 1000 (General). Tickets for the two eliminators are estimated at PKR 5,000 (VIP), PKR 3,000 (Premium), PKR 1,500 (First Class), and PKR 750 (General). The qualifying tickets are PKR 5000 (VIP), PKR 2500 (Premium), and PKR 1500.
The tickets for the final, which will be held on the 18th at the National Bank in Karachi, have been priced at PKR 8,000 (VIP), PKR 4,000 (Premium), PKR 2,500 (First class), and PKR 1,000 (General).
Player draft PSL 9 2024:
The player draft for the 2024 Pakistan Super League took place on December 13, 2023, at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. In this draft, teams had the option to retain up to eight players and conduct transfers.
Transfer of players:
Hasan Ali and the initial round silver selection of Islamabad were exchanged from Islamabad United to Karachi Kings in return for Imad Wasim and Karachi’s subsequent round silver selection. Iftikhar Ahmed and the premier round platinum choice of Quetta were exchanged from Quetta Gladiators to Multan Sultans in return for Rilee Rossouw and Multan’s initial round silver choice. Naseem Shah and Quetta’s third-round platinum selection was transferred from Quetta Gladiators to Islamabad United in exchange for Mohammad Wasim, Abrar Ahmed, and Islamabad’s premier-round platinum selection. Shan Masood and Multan’s fourth-round silver pick were swapped from Multan Sultans to Karachi Kings in return for Faisal Akram and Karachi’s first-round silver pick. Additionally, Karachi and Multan interchanged their first-round diamond picks.
PSL 9 All Team’s Full Squad:
The teams’ players were finalized through the draft held in Lahore on December 13, 2023, six days after the franchises revealed their retained players. Furthermore, a supplementary and replacement draft occurred on January 29, 2024.
PSL 9 Islamabad United Full Squad:
Islamabad United’s squad comprises Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah, both categorized as Platinum players, along with Imad Wasim and Azam Khan, both classified as Diamond players. Faheem Ashraf serves as the Brand Ambassador, while Alex Hales and Colin Munro are designated as gold players. Rumman Raees holds the silver category, while Tymal Mills, Matthew Forde, Salman Agha, Qasim Akram, Shahab Khan, Hunain Shah, Ubaid Shah, Shamyl Hussain, Tom Curran (currently injured), and the line is completed by Jordan Cox, Haider Ali, and Obed McCoy.
PSL 9 Karachi Kings Full Squad:
The Karachi Kings’ squad features James Vince, Hassan Ali (classified as Diamond), Shan Masood (serving as the Brand Ambassador), and Shoaib Malik (acting as the Mentor), all designated as gold players. Tabraiz Shamsi is also categorized as Gold. Mir Hamza and Muhammad Akhlaq hold the silver category, while Irfan Khan is recognized as an Emerging player. Mohammad Nawaz, Kieron Pollard, Daniel Sams, Tim Seifert, Mohammad Amir Khan, Anwar Ali, Arafat Minhas, Sirajuddin, Saad Baig, Jamie Overton, Zahid Mehmood (as a partial replacement for Zahid Mehmood), Leus du Plooy, and Mohammad Rohid complete the squad.
PSL 9 Lahore Qalandars Full Squad:
The Lahore Qalandars’ lineup includes Shaheen Shah Afridi (classified as Platinum), Haris Rauf (serving as the Brand Ambassador), and David Wiese, both designated as Diamond players. Sikandar Raza, Abdullah Shafique, and Zaman Khan are categorized as gold players. Mirza Baig and Rashid Khan (currently injured) hold the silver category. Fakhar Zaman, Sahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Imran, Ahsan Bhatti, Dan Lawrence (partially unavailable), Jahandad Khan, Syed Faridoun, Shai Hope, Kamran Ghulam, Rassie van der Dussen, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Tayyab Abbas complete the roster.
PSL 9 Multan Sultan Full Squad:
Multan Sultans’ squad features Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed, both categorized as Platinum players. Khushdil Shah and Usama Mir hold the Diamond designation, while Abbas Afridi is classified as Gold. Ihsanullah serves as the Brand Ambassador and holds the silver category. Faisal Akram is recognized as an Emerging player. The team also includes Dawid Malan, Reeze Hendricks, Reece Topley, Tayyab Tahir, Shahnawaz Dahani, Mohammad Ali, Usman Khan, Yasir Khan, Chris Jordan, Aftab Ibrahim, David Willey, Johnson Charles, and Muhammad Shahzad.
PSL 9 Peshawar Zalmi Full Squad:
Peshawar Zalmi includes Babar Azam and Rovman Powell, both categorized as Platinum players. Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore hold the Diamond designation, while Mohammad Haris serves as the Brand Ambassador. Aamir Jamal is also classified as Gold. Khurram Shahzad is placed in the silver category, while Haseebullah Khan is recognized as an Emerging player. The lineup further comprises Asif Ali, Naveen-ul-Haq (partially unavailable), Umair Afridi, Dan Mousley, Gus Atkinson, Mohammad Zeeshan, Lungi Ngidi (replaced by Waqar Salamkheil), Mehran Mumtaz, Gus Atkinson (replaced by Noor Ahmad), Salman Irshad, Arif Yaqoob, Shamar Joseph (as a partial replacement for Gus Atkinson), Arshad Iqbal (as a partial replacement for Khurram Shahzad), and Luke Wood.
PSL 9 Quetta Gladiators Full Squad:
The Quetta Gladiators’ lineup features Rilee Rossouw categorized as Platinum, along with Mohammad Wasim, Jason Roy, and Wanindu Hasaranga designated as Diamond players. Sarfaraz Ahmed serves as the Brand Ambassador, while Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Hasnain hold the gold category. Mohammad Amir and Will Smeed are placed in the silver category. The roster also includes Saud Shakeel, Sajjad Ali, Usman Qadir, Adil Naz, Khawaja Nafay, Akeal Hosein, Sohail Khan, Omair Yousuf, Sherfane Rutherford, Bismillah Khan (a partial replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga), and Sufiyan Muqeem.
PSL9 2024 All Venues:
The opening match will be held in Lahore, while Karachi will host the playoffs and the final. The matches will take place at the following stadiums: Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, National Stadium in Karachi, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. The capacity of each stadium is as follows: Gaddafi Stadium – 27,000, Multan Cricket Stadium – 30,000, National Stadium – 32,000, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium – 15,000.
PSL 9 Marketing strategies:
The season’s logo variant was unveiled on 8 December 2023 with the title HBL PSL 9, also known as the hashtag #HBLPSL9, as HBL Pakistan has been its title sponsor since the league’s inception. The official anthem titled “Khul Ke Khel” will feature Ali Zafar and Aima Baig.
PSL 9 Anthem:
The announcement that Ali Zafar will perform the PSL anthems made headlines two months ago. However, it was later reported that the singer had been fired from PCB while writing new songs. Speaking with the local media about the issue, Ali Zafar disclosed that the PCB had formally asked him to write this year’s PSL 9 anthem. He described the surprising development in detail, stating,
“I spent two months working on it and paid for the services of musicians and music producers, and at the end, I had three different renditions of the anthem for the PCB to pick from. The PCB notified me that I cannot proceed with the anthem for reasons that I would like not to reveal at this time after one of them was completed and the release was scheduled.”
