The PCB chairman also guaranteed the CEO of New Zealand Cricket that the team is being provided with the best of the security measures and protocols and everything related to them is under surveillance all the time.
“Looking after the New Zealand team is our responsibility. The team is very close to our hearts and I am monitoring the whole arrangements as well as the security arrangements for the tour,” Naqvi assured Weenik.
Scott Weenik in reply to the assurances, expressed his utter satisfaction in regards to the security measures. “I am very happy with the arrangements at both these places,” said Weenink. He further added that the security at both Rawalpindi and Lahore was outstanding.
Pakistan has only ever hosted an ICC event back in 1987 as co-hosts with India. It was the first time a World Cup had been held outside of the Western world.
Then Pakistan hosted the 1996 Cricket World Final at Gaddafi Stadium played between Sri Lanka and Australia.
Since then, Pakistan has not hosted any ICC event. The Champions Trophy 2025 will be the first in a very long time.
The hosts also happen to be the defending champions of the tournament. They won it back in 2017 under the captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmed. It was their first-ever Champions Trophy title.
