Oman Cricket announces T20 World Cup 2024 squad, names new captain

Oman Cricket has announced a 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 starting on June 1st.

Apart from naming the squad, they have also appointed a new captain and he is Aqib Illyas.

Ilyas will lead the side into what is Oman’s third World Cup appearance.

Ilyas has expressed his gratitude and honor saying that the role of a captain is a huge responsibility and he will try his best to lead his team to many victories.

He also pointed out that the recent ACC Premier Cup, also hosted by Oman, has provided the team with preparation, and other than that the Oman players are training rigorously.

The squad will also have the experience and guidance of former skipper Zeeshan Maqsood who had been leading the team since the 2016 T20 World Cup that was held in India.

Oman is set to play their first match of the World Cup against Namibia in Barbados on June 2 with the World Cup starting from June 1.

The tournament will be hosted by the USA and the West Indies. The first ICC event for the US and the second T20 World Cup hosted by the West Indies.

Oman Cricket squad for T20 World Cup:

Aqib Ilyas (c), Zeeshan Maqsood, Kashyap Prajapati, Pratik Athavale (wk), Ayaan Khan, Shoaib Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Naseem Khushi (wk), Mehran Khan, Bilal Khan, Rafiullah, Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt, Shakeel Ahmad.

The rest of the teams will have to announce their squads by May 1st and they can announce changes by May 25th. Any changes made after that will require them to get approval from the ICC.
