Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new t20i captain of the Pakistan cricket team.

Muhammad Rizwan has been appointed vice-captain, working alongside the newly-appointed captain Shaheen Afridi. Their initial task will involve leading the team in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand.

After Babar Azam stepped down as captain in all three formats, these two players will take on the responsibility in t20i. Despite their vast experience in International Cricket, they will now face the unique challenges that come with captaincy, which they are expected to handle proficiently throughout this series.

This is a good decision by the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohammad Rizwan has good experience of captaining in T20. Rizwan has led Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League for the last 3 years. Under his leadership, the Multan Sultans team won the 2021 season title.

Mohammad Rizwan: “It is an honor to be named as the vice-captain of Pakistan Men’s T20I side. I am thankful to the PCB for entrusting me with this responsibility. I am looking forward to working closely with the captain, coaching staff, and my teammates to contribute to the team’s success.”

Rizwan, who is 31 years old, has participated in 85 T20Is, accumulating a total of 2,797 runs. This impressive record includes one century and 25 half-centuries. Rizwan is behind the stumps by taking 41 catches and executing 11 stumpings. Shaheen Shah Afridi has an impressive track record in 52 T20I matches, taking 64 wickets with an average of 7.63.

Pakistan and New Zealand engaged in a five-match T20I series in Pakistan last year. The series concluded with a 2-2 draw, while one match was unfortunately abandoned due to rain.
