Kyrie Irving Breaks Free from 1-3 Slump with Victory Over Celtics

Kyrie Irving ended his prolonged losing streak against the Boston Celtics with a crucial performance in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. The Dallas Mavericks overwhelmed the Celtics with a 122-84 victory, forcing a Game 5 back in Boston.

Kyrie Irving had not defeated the Celtics since 2021, experiencing a string of 13 consecutive losses to his former team. This stretch included a first-round sweep in 2022 and the first three games of the current Finals.

Kyrie Irving’s Emphatic Game 4 Performance

Friday’s Game 4 saw Kyrie Irving, alongside Luka Doncic, leading the Mavericks to a historic win. Irving and Doncic combined for 50 points, with Irving shooting an impressive 9-for-12 inside the three-point arc. This performance marked a significant turnaround for Irving, who had struggled in the first two games of the series.

“It’s taken time, I can tell you that,” Kyrie Irving said, reflecting on his difficulties overcoming the losing streak. “As a competitor, you try not to display all your emotions out there to give an edge.”

Mavericks’ Role Players Step Up

Kyrie Irving’s resurgence mirrored the improved performance of Dallas’ role players, who had also struggled early in the Finals. The Mavericks’ collective effort was pivotal in securing the Game 4 victory and maintaining their hopes in the series.

“I think I was able to take a step back, too, and talk to my teammates a little bit more about just what that pressure can feel like,” Irving noted. “It’s a team game. I have to rely on my teammates, and I think we all did a great job of that tonight.”

With the series heading back to Boston, the Mavericks aim to build on their Game 4 success. Irving’s leadership and the team’s renewed confidence will be critical as they seek to continue their fight in the Finals.

NBA Finals Game 5 is scheduled for Monday at 8:30 PM ET, where the Mavericks will attempt to extend the series further and challenge the Celtics on their home turf.
