The Ireland cricket team has rejected central contract terms

Ireland cricketers have rejected contract offers from Cricket Ireland, the sport’s governing body, as they prepare for their upcoming series against Pakistan and the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

The Irish players have rejected contract offers from Cricket Ireland ahead of the T20I series against Pakistan and the T20 World Cup 2024.

Last week, the players declined the contract terms proposed which also included lag raises after news came out that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has increased funding after Cricket Ireland started to emerge last year.

The Irish Cricketers’ Association (ICA) has been negotiating with Cricket Ireland. Moreover, the specific amount of the increased funding was known in March after the last year’s contracts had expired.

While the matches played after March 1st were being played on the conditions of the previous contract.

And the additional funding which was anticipated by the Ireland board has not materialized. It should be considered that Ireland Cricket is also hosting matches abroad due to a lack of infrastructure and facilities. This has troubled Ireland’s budget.

The board finalized this year’s budget only last month, resulting in delayed negotiations and fixture planning of the series and the male team has declined the proposals and the contract terms. The rejection will have the players operating to play under the last year’s contract and terms.

The Ireland Cricket Team is scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against Pakistan from May 10th to May 14th. Then a tri-series will be followed including Netherlands and Scotland.

The team will then begin their T20i World Cup journey on June 4th. Their first squad will be played against India in New York.
