Darius Morris, the former point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, was found dead on May 4th. ABC 7 and TMZ Sports reported that the Los Angeles County medical examiner attributed his passing to coronary heart disease, exacerbated by the involvement of drugs and alcohol.

The medical examiner attributed Morris’ accidental death to ethanol, cocaine, and hydrocodone. Morris was last known to be alive on April 22, when he was showing symptoms similar to the flu.

Following Morris’s death, his family utilized TMZ to express their sadness and request privacy in a message: “With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our dear son, Darius Aaron Morris.” During this time of transition, his family asks for your support in respecting their wish for privacy and dignity.

Drafted by the Lakers in 2011 as a second-round pick, Morris, who was from Los Angeles, played alongside Kobe Bryant for two seasons. He dedicated four years to his professional career, playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets.

Before starting his NBA career, Morris played for the University of Michigan Wolverines basketball team and was one of only five players in the school’s history to have more than 200 assists in a season.
