Cricket Australia reveals squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024
Australian cricket board, on May 1st, has revealed a 15-player squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
Mitchell Marsh who had been named as a temporary captain for the squad was also announced as a permanent captain of the Kangaroos and will also lead the side in the T20 World Cup.
Marsh has said that he feels honored to lead the squad in a World Cup and that he believes the team will extend their recent games’ success to the tournament.
Veteran and experienced batter Steve Smith who has also captained the team in the past has been left out of the final cut. This is the first time in a decade that Smith will not join Australia for a World Cup campaign.

Selection Committee of Australia Cricket Team, George Bailey noted that the mark of 15 players per squad makes it hard to select players and the process leaves out many unlucky players that are performing well.
He said that Steve Smith, Matt Short, Jason Behrendorff, Aaron Hardie, Spencer Johnson, and Xavier Bartlett were all part of long conversations, along with several others, including Jake Fraser-McGurk who is yet to play T20 International cricket but continues to impress and is developing rapidly in the shorter format of the game.
Left-arm spinner, Ashton Agar has been called back to the team after not playing a single T20i match since the T20 World Cup in 2022.
Bailey expressed gladness to have Ashton Agar back in the squad after being injured again and again as he believes that Agar can play a critical role in the tournament if he is paired with Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Mitch Marsh.
